Alyssa Milano has faced criticism from X users after deactivating her account amid her ongoing feud with Elon Musk. The Charmed actress has been at odds with the tech mogul for years, even going so far as to trade in her Tesla in protest of his ownership of the brand.
Milano decided to shut down her personal account on the social media platform just weeks after Donald Trump’s election win, which was significantly supported by Musk, 53. Her personal X account now displays a notice that it has been deleted, while her podcast profile, Sorry Not Sorry, directs users to BlueSky.
This move comes after Milano, 51, vowed in 2022 that she would not leave the Musk-owned platform, comparing it to a ‘turf-war.’ Her decision to delete her account has since been mocked and criticized by X users.
One user commented, “Alyssa Milano is the latest celebrity not able to handle social media.” Another added, “After saying she’d never leave because ‘surrendering is pathetic,’ guess she had a change of heart.” Others chimed in with remarks like, “If Elon’s X has a door, I hope it doesn’t hit Alyssa Milano on the way out,” and “A list of the most unlikable people are fleeing – bye.”
Milano was previously mocked on X, formerly Twitter, after revealing she had swapped her Tesla for an electric Volkswagen due to her moral outrage at Musk. She wrote in 2022, “I’m not sure how advertisers can buy space on Twitter. Publicly traded company’s products being pushed in alignment with hate and white supremacy doesn’t seem to be a winning business model.” However, the irony of purchasing a VW, a company established in 1937 under Hitler’s Nazi Party, was apparently lost on the actress.
It’s unclear what type of car Milano bought, but the only electric VW available in the United States appears to be the ID4 SUV, which retails from $38,000.
Milano, who publicly endorsed Kamala Harris, is the latest celebrity to leave X following the election. She joins Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, who moved to BlueSky, and Gabrielle Union, who left X on November 15, citing her commitment to “engaging in spaces that truly value inclusivity, respect, and integrity in the digital world.” Jamie Lee Curtis also departed, announcing her decision with a brief prayer, and author Stephen King deleted his account, stating the “atmosphere has just become too toxic” and urging fans to follow him on Threads.
