Cucumbers Recalled in Canada and U.S. Over Salmonella Concerns

The American produce company, SunFed, is alerting customers in the U.S. and Canada about a possible salmonella contamination affecting all sizes of their cucumbers. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for bulk shipments of SunFed cucumbers due to these concerns.

Customers should be cautious of cucumbers packed in cardboard containers, white boxes, or black plastic crates, especially if they have a sticker with the grower’s name, “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.” The CFIA is currently investigating the situation.

Salmonella can lead to severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms include fever, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

SunFed urges all consumers to immediately check their cucumbers and discard any that are part of the recalled batch to ensure safety.
